07. Spitalul Clinic Judetean de Urgenta Timisoara

The District Emergency Medicine Hospital of Timisoara (Romanian County Clinical Hospital Timisoara, popular Kreisspital) was the first county hospital founded as a central university hospital in Timisoara in 1974 and is still the the largest and most modern hospital in Timis County and the West of Romania.

The constant growth of the population in the 1960s required the construction of a new modern hospital in Timisoara. In 1970, it was decided to build a nine-story central university clinic. Between 1970 and 1974, the new district hospital in the new Cairo Giroc area was built, the largest and most modern hospital in western Romania.

Co-founder and first director of the county hospital was Ferdinand Nistor-Gallo, one of Banat’s greatest health care sponsors. As a director of the district hospital, he established the first dialysis center and performed the first kidney transplant in Romania. The district hospital also operates a school for the training of medical staff.
